Poetry is a literary work that is not bound by rhyme and number of syllables. Poetry is arranged according to the expression of the poet. Poets often use words that are symbolic, figurative, and symbolic. Example of Poetry :

Bermacam-macam bunga bermekaran (Various flowers are blooming)

Types of Poetry of English
1. Soneta
Sonnet (soneta) is a short rhyme poem with 14 lines. The original Sonnet (soneta) form was coined in the 13th / 14th century by Dante and the Italian philosopher Francisco Petrarch. Sonnet (soneta) Consists of 14 lines and the number of syllables in each line is usually between 9-14 syllables. Sonnet function is as a tool to express the heart's content. Example:
Nothing I found in this hallway
Apart from being completely dark
Nesting silence
The cold that strikes
Nothing I found in this hallway
Besides a lump of darkness
A bit of stiffness
Light as cold
I passed this long hallway
No stopping
Until I find the light
I passed this long hallway
Until later
This tunnel hole I passed
2. Limerick
Limerick or pantun jenaka is a type of short poem starting with two-sentence rhymes, two-phrase middle rhymes, last long sentences starting with two rhymes. This type of poetry was popularized in English by Edward Lear (therefore Limerick Day is celebrated on his birthday, May 12). Example:
There was an old man in a barge.
Whose nose was exceedingly large
But in fishing by night, it supported a light
Which helped that old man in a barge.
Types of Old Poetry of Indonesian
1. Pantun
Pantun rhymes a-b-a-b and has syllables that have 8-12 words. The ending syllable of the second line must be the same as the fourth line. The purpose of the poetry itself is to insinuate, joke, give advice, or have fun. Example:
Sungguh indah Pulau Bali (The island of Bali is truly beautiful)
disebut orang Pulau Dewata (called the Island of the Gods)
Kalau pandangan tak lagi jeli, (If your eyes are no longer observant,)
sudah saatnya berkaca mata (it's time to get glasses)
2. Rhyme (Syair)
The rhyme is almost the same as the rhyme, it's just that the lyrics are like telling a story. This paragraph has four lines and each line contains content and related. Rhymes a-a-a-a and has syllables that have 8-12 words. Example :
Dengarlah para anak muda (Listen, young people)
Rajinlah belajar sepanjang masa (Study hard all the time)
Ilmu itu tak akan habis dieja (Knowledge is never ending)
Untuk bekal sepanjang usia (For all ages)
3. Gurindam
Gurindam is a short verse that has only 2 lines. Gurindam has rhyme a-a and has syllables that have 8-12 words. Each line is content. Example :
Guru yang dapat jadi teladan (Teachers who can be role models)
Bagaikan sinar di kegelapan (Like a light in the dark)
